Had a problem with my computer and had to back everything up and then reset computer to factory settings. Did that and sent computer in for repair. I now need to retrieve files from backup. I assume I have to reinstall My Passport ultra on my computer before I can retrieve the files. IS THIS CORRECT?
There’s nothing per-se to reinstall, the hard drive should appear if you just plug it in.
What I guess you’re maybe referring to is either the WD security stuff, or Smartware. If you have security enabled, then you would of course need to reinstall that to access the drive again. Similarly depending on how you did your back-up, you’ll need to reinstall that software to do the retrieval and get your files back.
How did you do the back-up, and do you have any kind of security or encryption enabled on the drive?
