Restore from Win 7 to MacBook

Is it possible to restore a backup in Win 7 from a My Book Elite to a MacBook? I’m thinking of upgrading to MacBook Pro. Wondering if there is software or an app that will allow it. Thanks

How you did the backup? software or manual backup?

If you connect the drive to a Mac computer it might show as a read only drive and if you backed up the files manually, you might be able to get the files… Now if you used a software to create the backup, you might need to use the same software to restore the files and it might not work on Mac.

I just used the automated backup set up through the Smartware software. I’m not expecting that I will be able to restore to Mac. Just wondering if there is a software migration solution that might work. Thanks for the reply.

If the drive was formatted for Windows it is probably read only on a Mac. If the link still works NTFS-3G http://sourceforge.net/projects/ntfs-3g/ might work. It was free but went to pay and many of the links no longer work.

Thank you. I may give those links a try. I did find out that Mountain Lion has a migration assistant that can migrate user data from a PC via FireWire.

Thanks for sharing I know very little about Macs.
