Repurpose WD Home NASware 3.0 HDD?

I have a WD Home NAS that died, the controller refuses to reset and it is out of warranty. I disassembled the enclosure and wonderred if I can re-purpose the HDD as a standard HDD? In other words, is it possible to remove/erase the NASWare 3.0 drive and just initialize in a different format?

Thanks

of course it is.

The WD Red is a standard 3.5" HDD with a SATA Connector and WD do sell them separately … so you can format/partition them to whatever you want.

I am asking about the drive that was in my WD Home Edition

No difference … it’s still a standard 3.5" HDD with a SATA connector.
