Replacing crashed hard disk and restore content

I fully agree with KY_Tom here that the software is not working as expected. I can hardly imagine a more user hostile way of doing this…!

I just replaced one of my hard disks that stopped working a week ago. Big surprise when I was trying to use WD SmartWare to restore the backup. The old volume was not listed in available backed up volumes. Only my other 2 disk that was still working Ok.

I have found the backed up files in the Windows file explorer and started a manual copy of them. But now I get all old obsolete versions of the files also. Will have to go through every folder and delete them manually.

This was not the work I imagined to do when starting using WD SmartWare for taking back-ups!

Replacements and restoring of crashed drives need to be done more user friendly!

Hi PaalFredrik, sorry to hear that you encountered problems using Smartware, a troubleshooting step that you could have tried, was unistalling Smartware and installing the latest version.

Installing new version did not help much. Still not able to restore from the old backup via WD SmartWare.

But entering *@ in the explorer search field made it much easier and faster to clean up old version after the manual copy.
