Replacement drive discovered as JBOD and not rebuilt into existing RAID5

How do I delete the “JBOD” tag on the replacement drive?

My PR4100 has one 4-drive (6TB ea.) RAID5 configuration and drive #2 died. It is set to Auto Rebuild.

I replaced drive #2 with a spare that is the same PN, same FW ver., same speed and same size.

Now, there are two RAID Volumes displayed. The replacement drive #2 shows up as “JBOD” in the RAID Volume screen. The original RAID5 also shows up in the RAID Volume screen as “Degraded”, but the data appears to be intact.

I have three PR4100 and two EX4 and this is the first time ever this has happened. I have replaced several drives in these five NAS in the last 10 years, and every replacement drive was always rebuilt into the existing RAID5 volume without issues or drama.

I think drive #2 just needs to have the JBOD designation deleted and it would be rebuilt into the original RAID5 without destroying the original RAID5 Volume.

Solved

I removed the replacement drive #2 from the PR4100 and mounted it into a USB attached 3.5” SATA to USB-C external enclosure and then connected it to my Windows 10 workstation.

The PC discovered it, and wanted to “format” it.

Instead, I opened the PC’s Disk Management utility, and could see the drive and it had 4 partitions.

Starting with the 1st one on the left of the display, I deleted each of the 4 from left to right. When I was done, I disconnected it from the PC and pugged it into the PR4100 slot #2.

On the next startup of the PR4100, it discovered the replacement drive in slot #2 and started a rebuild into the existing RAID5 volume. It looks like it is rebuilding without issues now.
