Replaced hard drive with WD Blue SSHD or any other brand of hard drive

Hi friends,
Wondering if anyone has replaced their hard drive with the WD hybrid or any other hard drive brand with success?
Thanks for any feedback!

Sure, you can replace / upgrade the HDD (see link below) … but you won’t get any extra speed/performance out of an SSD / SSHD if you install one.

Hybrid drives need some boot cycles to “learn”. Simly way to explain is: the firmware of WD Blue SSHD learns within some boot cycles, what data is requested during the initial boot process. A copy of this data will be stored in the 8 GB NAND Flash part of the hybrid drive and used to boost up the initial boot process, Afterwards, the hybrid drive acts as a normal rotation drive.

Sure, the performnace cannot be compared with SSD drives but if you have limited space like in Ultrabooks or only one bay available, then you will benefit from a much shorter bootup time than compared woth a normal rotating drive.

But won’t the Sata Controller inside the Live Hub be the bottleneck ?

If the Live Hub is SATA1 and you put a 1TB SATA3 SSD inside, then the max speed will be limited to SATA1

Yes, ofcourse, it will be limited due to SATA I, WD Blue SSHD is SATA III

But Bootup time may be shortend as the files does not need to be searched and loaded from rotating drive but be “injected” by the Flash part.
