So I have the pr4100 each bay has a 6tb. This gives me a total of 12tb storage with mirrored backup.
Bay 1 is showing a red light and has failed, can I just remove the faulty drive and insert a new one, meaning that the drive will copy the data automatically or do I need to do something major to keep the system working as it was before this fault occurred
Yes you can do so.
- there is a feature called RAID rebuilding.
- you can follow the link below to know how you can do that .

- Also if the drive is under warranty get the replacement for the faulty drive in bay1
