Repair disk

Well, here’s the story:

I have 2TB WD Essential.  I copied some large files into another HDD. In the outgoing process, accidentally, I shut down the entire electricity in my home network. I found some files (2 .mkv files actually) didn’t running properly, as the result.

So I’m running a HDD repair disk using Windows. And it took soooo long! Over 24 hours! And unluckily, again, the process stopped because of blackout.

I wonder if there are any faster way to scan and repair disk, especially the large size of disk.

Thank you.

Hi it is very hard on hard drive’s to lose power suddenly if you have a lot of blackouts I suggest a ups it does not need a big one just enough to give you time to shut the pc down and save damage to the system components. You can try a copy of hard disk sentinel it will tell you what problems the drive has and if it needs to be replaced.

Yes off course. I intended to but one too.

But, back on the topic instead, I’m looking for alternatives to speed up a scan or repair an NTFS format HDD. Would be appreciated if you can recommend options or software applied. As far as I’m concerned, there are only 2 mkv files that doesn’t work properly.

Thanks again

Hi yes my point is if there are problems with the drive it may never repair. Try a copy of hard disk sentinel to start with it will give you a report on the drive like bad sector’s or other problems. It will give you a report as soon as it starts like in 1 min it will scan the drive and give the report. Here is a link on how to repair the drive in hard disk sentinel   http://www.hdsentinel.com/faq_repair_hard_disk_drive.php

I just saw this but haven’t had enought time to look at to close http://html5.litten.com/how-to-fix-external-disk-drive-suddenly-became-raw/ Test disk is frequently mentioned for fixing corrupt disks so this might help.
