Removing write protection from WD 2TB My Passport?

HI, I am super new to external harddrives.  When I purchased the drive I thought I would be able to copy/paste any files onto the drive like I would a SD card.   But when I try to create a  new folder or copy/paste a file onto the hdd I get the write protection access denied error.   Was I wrong to assume that I would be able to copy/paste files and only can use the supplied software?

Hi, you are capable of copying your files just like a normal SD card. If you are connecting the passport to a Mac, you might need to format it first. Check the link below for the steps. If you have it connected to a windows PC, try using another USB port and avoid using extension USB cables or USB hubs.
