When I bought my WDMyCloud it came with a TimeMachineBackup share. Can I delete ths share without getting future regrets?
Do you or any of your users have an Apple computer or plan on using one? If the answer is NO then delete it.
I actually do have Mac’s.
My actual question is: is this share an “ordanairy” share like any other which I can make myself or some specially prepared share?
I played around with this and I realized that shares created manually would not be seen by TimMachine on my Mac. So I ended do a system restore (which recreate the default TimeMachineBackup and Smartware shares). I was able to rename the default shares easily.
So if I ever want to use my WDMyCloud for a Timemachine back up and I do not want to perform a restore, I better not delete the TimeMachine share
Thank you!
Hi,
I’ve deleted the default TimeMachineBackup share and, instead, connected a USB HD with Mac OS Extended journaled filesystem to my MyCloud, then configured that one as a new Time Machine share with a convenient maximum size set using MyCloud’s dashboard. After having this new share selected as the new target on my MacBook Pro’s Time Machine options, everything works like a charm.
So, obviously, you can delete the default TimeMachineBackup share.
Thx!
