I have taken this thing off my pc as it seemed to be causing problems. Since removing it, no more problems. Must have been the culprit. My question is:
should I delete the software as well?
…and then, when and if I do put it back on, I will find the most recent software version on the wd download page, correct?? thanks in advance.
Hello there, What problem was causing the hard drive on the computer? You could delete the software if you want, but is not necessary, and yes you will find the latest version of the software on the site.
I started having crash problems after the last update. Sometimes twice a day. I looked at the event viewer and the application error it listed - every time - was wd drive. I removed the drive and I haven’t had a problem since. It may be something in the download of the last update or what I don’t know. At any rate, no more crashes since removal. I am now loathe to reinstall it - the drive is at 80% capacity and soon to be filled up at which time it will be of no value to me anyway. OR, can u tell me how to bring it back down to around 60 or 70% capacity. Thanks very much for your input.
You can remove information that you dont want from the drive, by manually going into the unit and deleting the files.
If you uninstall the software from the computer and connect the drive, do you have crashes? Do you have crashes with the software installed and the drive unplugged?
To respond to first entry, I go to the drive itself to delete files? There was something I did with a file called swstr on my pc (or some name like that) to delete files but some of them would not delete. Tech support said I could not delete those files which bugged me since they were my folders and files.
To answer second entry, I have not tried reconnecting the drive so don’t know. I don’t have software installed any longer so don’t want to try that one. Maybe down the road, I will reinstall software and try your suggestions but right now I’m enjoying my crash-free pc. Thanks again.
