Had a new WD TV Live…remote not working so could not get past 1st setup screen !! - tried 4 new sets of batteries, many resets and finally a firmware update…nothing worked…support help seemed to suggest ordering a new remote…nice money spinner !!! - returning the device as very disappointed and now looking at alternatives. Web forum posts suggest many users suffer this problem…get your quality control sorted WD !!!

Since it’s new, just exchange it for a new one.
Out of interest how did you do a firmware update without the remote control. As Tony has said if anything is faulty you simply take the whole package back and get a new one. You can then comment on here that you had a faulty remote but I don’t think its worthy of a rant.
