Which of the available WD programs could be used to backup a remote directory to my Ex2Ultra, where remote means: over the internet ?
No sophisticated program is needed, a simple copy would already do it.

Are you trying to backup a directory from a computer of another NAS? As far as i know there is no WD software that can backup a computer remotely, however you could try a 3rd party software perhaps. Lets see of another user can share some information or tips on this matter.
No, it is just a directory on a remote pc.
But it seems to be even worse : I cannot access my NAS through a dynamic ip address, remote access will only work if I use the correct numerical ip address ( regardless the protocol or port)
If there is no solution for this, the NAS needs to be replaced
