I decided to do a test restore from a MyBook backup onto an internal HD that is otherwise empty. The restored files seem to include only files from the full backup. There are several incremental backups that seem not to have been included in the recovery operation. What am I doing wrong?
To clarify a bit, I selected Recovery, then Files, then the D: drive. There are two listed Backups entitled “DAVE-HOME-BUILT” and “My folders”. I’m not sure why that is, but I chose “DAVE-HOME-BUILT”. I just noticed that if I choose “My folders” instead that I can choose a “Version” that corresponds to the latest incremental, so I think that was my problem. I’m going to try another Recovery using “My folders” and the latest incremental date as the Version.
You’re only getting files from the full backup because the incremental backups are stored separately and aren’t automatically included. To recover everything, you need to use the restore tool’s option to “restore the latest version” or “include all backups”, which will combine the full backup with all the incrementals. If that option isn’t available, you may have to restore the incremental backups manually in order. Otherwise, you’ll only see the files that were in the full backup.
