Recover drive (My Passport Ultra) after a Format due to forgotten Password

Following a Software update, my security password came up error. After five attempts, the only solution was to format the drive. I then attempted a backup, it advised: “Drive not Connected”.
I tried a few more things, but what worked was to delete the old backup setup and set up a new one. It’s just finished. It took 1 hr. to complete 90% of 110gig.
