Read Only attributes not applying

Trying to set up my 4Tb MCH, have my photos on the drive but want to apply read only attributes to all files and folders to keep the originals, trouble is it’s not applying - no error, just doesn’t apply.

I only have one account on my win10 PC which shows as admin, any ideas? Cheers
