Re: New Release - Windows WD SmartWare version 1.4.1.1 (9/13/10)

I’ve also used WD’s version of Acronis to backup my entire operating system. I did a Clone with it and saved it to MY BOOK ELITE and my slave drive and restored it to a new larger boot drive and it worked beautifully I’m surprised to say!

People, people, people, NEVER update Smartware. I bought my external drive early in the year, and immediately saw it was a resource hog, and did 1 backup with it. After that, I’ve never used it again, especially after reading this board and saw that everyone else was seeing the same thing. And you think that as soon as they release an update, you download and install it immediately?? NO NO NO! When Microsoft comes out with a service pack for an operating system, do you go and update to it right away?? NO! You wait 6 months, at least to make sure that all the bugs are fixed. And with the reputation that WD is making for itself with Smartware (junkware), they will soon lose their position as the 2nd largest hard drive manufacturer in the world, to the 3rd largest. NEVER UPDATE SMARTWARE! Remember the old saying, “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it”!?!?

Listen to Joe_S, he knows what he’s talking about!! I wish I could say the same for the “Community Manager” they have running this board!
