I think that may be a very reasonable assumption, krachek.
When we think the WD My Cloud is doing nothing, it MAY in fact be wearing itself out writing entries to the logfiles. Maybe if the WD firmware stored more events in NV memory before writing to the disk, then the frequency of disk writes would go way down, and drive life would be extended to what one would expect from WD.
It is disappointing that WD would not weigh in on such a major issue affecting so many users, especially when some users are abandoning WD in favor of Hitachi and others as a result. WD’s silence is NOT golden.
