Re-instate removed password

Hi WD Community

Some time ago I used the WD app to remove the password from my MyPassport Ultra drive and all is working perfectly well. Having had enough of Microsoft I’m off to the lush, green uplands of Linux (wish me luck) but have a problem with unlocking the WD drive as the WD Linux utilities insist on a password [text], a blank password is not accepted. So I hear you say: just add the password back on the device, but this is were I need your help. The WD app tools to add/change a password have a mandatory field for the current password. I cannot enter a password that doesn’t exist therefore I cannot commit a new password. I know I could re-format the disk but I don’t want to loose the ~800GB of data if there’s a work-around. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
