Hi all
My my cloud ex2 worked ok since 1 year more or less, then I unplugged the power for a few month. When I re-powered it again a week ago, the two HDD led’s were solid red.
When trying to access the dashboard, it redirected me to a “first install” routine and finally I had to confirm a message about “RAID-Roaming” which said something similar to:
“This volume is a Roaming-Volumen from another WD My Cloud EX2-Device (not created on this system). Click “OK” to integrate it in the current WD My Cloud-Device. If you don’t integrate it, this may cause a data loss if the volume is downgraded…”
Even though I don’t understand this issue I re-gained access to my data and dashboard.
However since a few days, again I have no access to my data nor the dashboard. But now it seems to be worse: The main led is flashing blue but doesn’t turn into solid blue (while the HDD-led’s are solid blue)
Seems that it is stuck in the start up routine…
I tried the following without success:
Plug off power and network, wait, Plug in network and power cable
Reset (5s) while running
Reset while powering on (40s)
Checked IP on router
Connected directly to Laptop, no response when pinged
So does anyone have an idea how I can regain access to data and dashboard?
Basically, the system reset from having the power removed for so long. Not sure what it uses for a battery for retaining settings. The Ex2 basically thinks that you installed disks from another Ex2. That would be Raid-Roaming. Try pulling the disks & then do the factory reset. When it comes back up it should tell you to install the disks.
OK thanks for the explenations so far.
The issue with the disk roaming is strange, since I own the device, I never removed any disk and I had this message at least 3 times before the long power off.
Anyway, how do I perform a factory reset without having access to the dash board?
The factory reset is going to delete all data on my disks if not removed right?
However after a factory reset (disks removed off course) when it comes up again, there is no risk of data loss? E.g. It won’t ask to re-format the disks or what ever?
Are the disks hot-pluggable so that I can insert them while the device is running?
Regarding retrieving your data. Assuming that you had your EX2 set in Raid 1 mode or JBOD mode, you can retrieve the data. I did this on the original EX2 that I had bought. I returned it because it was simply too slow. Windows 7 does Not have native support for the Ext4 file format. You need to download a driver so that it can read the disk.
Once this is installed & Windows is restarted, shut it back down & plug your drive into your computer, preferably with a Sata cable. Windows should then be able to read it. Copy all of your data from it. You can scrub the drive at this time if you wish.
Then put the drive back in the EX2 & send it in for warranty.
The drives are designed to be replaced by the end user. It shouldn’t effect your warranty.
Something to note; I have read that others on the forms have talked with support & only had to send in the EX2 or My Cloud Mirror units. Not the drives. Talk to support. You may not have to send the drives in. That would also save on shipping costs. Of course you should verify that your drives work properly by checking them on your Windows machine. I would run WD’s Data LifeGuard Diagnostics to check the drives after you get your data off of them & before you talk to support. That way if you do have a bad drive you can send it in with the unit.
Unfortunately the driver didn’t work on my pc. After trying out some other freeware software for a few hours without success I deinstalled all and got me UFS Explorer Standard Access which had good Reviews. This allowed me instant access to all files, eventhough very slow due to my old hardware…
The drive test was successfull without any error.
Anyway thank you for your support, I finally sent the EX2 in after all data was retrieved.
