Question on firmware for WD TV Live

Hey guys, been a while

I have a WD TV LIve HD media player (not the newer ones) looks like this:

http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=1003&lang=en

I was having an issue playing a larger then usual .MP4 file so I have always played .MP4 files but not this big. That’s a whole nother problem but anyhow I thought about upgrading the firmware so I do have a update but after reading the release notes I don’t know if I want to.

I have a 3 TB WD Mk Book Essential thats connected to the media player, I notice the release notes say "

We have temporarily blocked USB mounting of Advanced Format (4k sector) HDD greater than 2TBs."

http://support.wdc.com/download/notes/WDTV_Live_Release_Notes_1.06.15_V.pdf

So with that I believe I should stay with the current version right? My 3 TB works as of now.

Thanks in advance

The 2TB thing is only about firmware older than 1.05.

Ok nevermind guys on the "

mounting of Advanced Format (4k sector) HDD greater than 2TBs."

I see what I did I scolled down to far on the PDF for the release notes on current fiirmware version.

Updating now.

Thanks Tony, I see that now. Kick me I feel so stupid :cat:

Now that I’m here, any idea why the .MP4 won’t play?

Please post the full TEXT output of MEDIAINFO for such a file.

Will this do?

Hey guys it has to be the file, I downloaded a different one 2.39G and it plays fine so I’m assuming the file is corrupt.

Just a guess, but it is not an mp4. It is an mkv.

See here in the mediainfo:

Format                                   : Matroska
Writing application                      : mkvmerge v5.6.0 (‘Kenya Kane’) built on May 27 2012 16:44:04
Writing library                          : libebml v1.2.3 + libmatroska v1.3.0

Probably confusing the device.

Yea I see what your saying, could very well be the problem

Off the file I just downloaded:

General
Complete name : E:\My Videos\Movies\Comedy\Drama\Hope Springs.mp4
Format : MPEG-4
Format profile : Base Media
Codec ID : isom
File size : 2.32 GiB
Duration : 1h 39mn

That did the trick parnott

Changed the extension from MP4 to MKV and its playing

Thanks for the help on both issues.
