Question for shutting down

Wow, mate, thanks so much…

My device does not act as a NAS, though it is connected to the network. I don’t think it ever spins down, but I’ll check again tonight with more attention. Could be some PC in the house pinging it and spinning it up, so I’ll see what happens if I take the network off…

So it’s a 4cm x 1cm fan, cool. It’s funny that the page you linked to states: “Lifecycle: Obsolete” :D

One last question: any guides on how to open the device?

Again, thanks; will test it again tonight and report…

This Youtube Video Shows how to take the top cover off …

Trust me on this advice … I used an old expired plastic “Credit Card” to pry the case open.

(Plastic is stiff, thin and flexable enough to work into the grooves and around the internal clips and eventually the top pops off. Also Requires Patience and not forcing things.)

Plastic against Plastic does little to No damage to Hub case at all …

Plus you won’t accidently stab yourself … Like you would if you use a Knife.

Its a bit difficult to open the hub. There is a top lid about 3mm thick which you have prise off. I used a small screwdriver. This flat top lid is held on by moulded plastic clips, which are part of the lid, and once you get one clip loose the others release very easily.

This shows you the inside

Snap.

You may find of course that the fan in your hub is sourced from a different supplier. In fact who knows that the complete design has not changed since the hub was introduced. I used to work for a major TV manufacturer and we were always updating the product, to improve it, to reduce costs, because a component was no longer available and many other reasons.

So, I left the unit on overnight; at some time I woke up and saw that its ethernet lights were blinking like it’s Christmas. Was too sleepy to feel if the HDD was on, however, so I just pulled the network cable and let it at that. Forgot to check it before leaving for work though
