Q: G-Raid T3 & FCPX

REGARDING G-RAID T3

1 What are benefits of having 2 removable drives?

2 If configured RAID-0 & you remove a drive,…what happens to data & raid settings?

3 Are there any benefits or uses for 2 removable drives in a Raid-0 configuration?

REGARDING: USING FCPX FOR VIDEO EDITING:

1 Can i edit directly from the G-RaidT3?
(ie: leave files in place on G-RaidT3 when editing)

2 Which raid config is recommended for G-RaidT3?
(ie: Raid 0, Raid 1 or JBOD, etc)

3 If configured as Raid 1, would G-RaidT3 be any faster than a G-DriveT3?

4 If configured as JBOD, would G-RaidT3 be any faster than a G-DriveT3?

5 If configured as Raid 0, how much faster would G-RaidT3 be than a G-DriveT3?

6 Can I edit directly from the G-DriveT3 ?
(ie: leave files in place on Gdrive when editing)?

  1. In the event of a failure you can replace a single drive (if mirror or JBOD) and get a replacement for just that drive and continue to use the unit.

  2. If it is RAID0 and you remove a drive you will risk destroying the RAID and losing the data

  3. RAID0, doesn’t lend itself to removable media well, its more for a RAID1 and JBOD scenario.

  1. Yes

  2. Depending on your video end result or the footage being used this can change. Highest performance is always going to be RAID0, just there is no protection against failure.

  3. Depends on capacity but usually no, RAID1 is essentially the same speed or lightly lower than a single drive

  4. No

  5. We have the numbers on the product pages but its roughly double the speed, minus about 20%. So if a single drive goes 200MB/s as an example, then a RAID0 would generally be close to 400 or a bit under. These are just example speeds.

  6. Same answer as 1.
