Problems seeing Win 2008 R2 64bit shares (a slightly different case)

Hi everyone,

I know there are other discussions on this but I think mine is a slightly different case. Most discussions require users to check various things using the Windows “net” command. My network is made up of:

a router,

a Macbook,

the said Windows 2008 R2 64bit machine, and

WDTV Live.

How can I check various things to make sure I’ve got everything set up right? I can see the Win2k8R2 machine in the Videos->Network Shares listing on the WDTV. When I click on it I get “This network share can not be accessed”. There are several shares on that machine so I’m not sure which one it meant, or what it was actually trying to do…

Here are some things about the setup:

All the network shares have “Everyone” given at least read permission

File Sharing has been opened in the firewall for private network

NetBIOS enabled over TCP/IP

Workgroup is called “HOME” on both Win machine and WDTV Live

Static IP on both Win machine and DHCP assigned on WDTV Live.

I’m sure I’ve missed something but can’t figure out what. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Dany.

Did you ever figured this out?

I never did find a solution for this - in the end I setup a Windows XP virtual machine and served the shares from there. It was quite disappointing but at least it works now.
