Problems playing quicktime *.mov files

Any ideas why the quicktime videos shot with a Panasonic camera won’t

play while the quicktime videos shot using a Canon will.

My PC and Mac can play them both, the WD TV can’t.

Different codecs are used.   MOV is only a container which can hold all kinds of different stuff…

So what is the solution?  I have a panasonic TZ10 producing .mov files with the same issue as above - jerky sound and video, especially when streamed, the video better if from a  USB drive attached to the back. It is not good enough to say re-encode etc. WD live is advertised to cope with .mov files. It either copes or it doesn’t and should not falsely advertise.

If there is a simple solution, what is it? Otherwise I will have to return the unit as the main use was playing my videos from my Mac. Thanks.

Sorry, can’t help you, because you’ve slammed the door on the solution.

Go hire your lawyer now.

Funny… the manual says:

Play almost any type of media file – The media players support a wide variety of the most popular file formats.

and under the Problem “File does not play” the given solution is:

“Use a media converter program to convert the file to a usable format.”

So, it plays a wide variety of .mov files, not every .mov file in existence, and the solution is to convert the file.  Good luck with that lawyer.
