Problem with playing videos after updating to 1.06.15_V

Hello everybody!

Well, I’ve updated my wd TV live to the latest FW version (1.06.15_V) and my problems started immediately.

Everything is working just fine, I didn’t make any adjustment to the settings, but I can’t play any videos. I use the preview mode listing and it starts previewing the video just fine (in any kind of file type… avi, mpg, mkv, etc.) but when push play to start the video it keeps playing the video in preview mode and the blue round circle appears and the video doesn’t play at all. This happens in Network Shares and in Media  Servers… Before the upgrade it used to work just fine…

I have already did a factory reset and a manual rollback to 1.04.31_V and this situation didn’t return to normal.

Any ideas anyone?

Dude, I’m sorry to tell you this but if your player is still not working as it was even after a roll-back then something could not be fixed… I’d consider calling WD on this one, you may need a replacement.

I think the problem is on the firmware because i have precisely the same problem as Nmapa… It’s a big coincidence after the update to version 1.06.15 this problem came up!

Thanks for any ideas…

Hello guys, I don’t know if you’ve checked other posts, especially the ones discussing the new 1.06.15 firmware. I have the same problem you describe after upgrading from 1.05.04 to 1.06 and downgrading back to 1.05 didn’t work. The only thing that did work was to downgrade to 1.02.21, the oldest I found in WD site. I’m not a heavy user and I’m glad it worked but we have a major problem here. I’m hoping WD releases a new firmware but it’s taking too long. Please tell me if that worked for you.

Same happened to me even after downgrading to 1.02.21 and upgrading to 1.05.04 again. If i use preview it will play in a 20 by 10 box in my upper right corner and only stop by unplugging power cord. Also if i press stop while playing a movie it will continue dispite menus appearing.

I bought a WD Live TV a month ago. It was updated at the outset with the version 1.06.15_V but two days ago it has collapsed. When it start to play a movie, there is no way to stop it. The command stops responding and the Player fails to read formats such as JPEG, WMV, MOV or others. The only way to put it playing properly, is to disconnect it from the power or from the internet, but then everything gets crazy the moment I connect it to the internet.
However, after much experimentation, I found a way to put it working properly: I deleted the firmware update and insert one of the old firmware versions (1.1.21). It is completely absurd, that the equipment has to work with an already outdated firmware and unable to work with the latest version (1.06.15_V).
I hope that Western Digital quickly solve this problem, or I’ll have to replace the equipment by a different brand.

I want to correct the information I have given in the previous post. The version I have now in my WD Liove TV is the 1.02.21 and not the 01.1.21, as I said.

Yes, same happens with my unit. This is bad, too bad indeed.

I think we should all spread the news everywhere and warn everybody not to buy Western Digital products, at least untilhey solve this problem. I have access to several magazines in Portugal and I wil spread this problem in all of them.
What trust deserves a brand that does not care about the problems they create to their customers?

Western Digital - never more!!!

Same here, and on two seperate WD Live TV Hubs.  Dad just called and now the upstaris one is doing it.  Both WDs got updated and when you try and play an arbitrarty video, it pops up a giant message box saying “Content Could not be found, etc etc” WHILE PLAYING THE VIDEO BEHIND THE TEXT BOX.  You can just make out the video playing around the edges, and when I click OK, it exits out of the video.

I had found a fix, which was instead of running it through FILES, run it through VIDEOS, it would preview the PIP video and then you could play it even through FILES.  This seems to no longer work as he tried it and no luck.

Thanks WD.

Same problem here. When WD would launch a firmware without major bugs like this?..

The only way i can see movies is disconnecting network cable from my WD TV Live and connecting the USB Drive directly to the WD TV Box.

Why do I have to config gw and DNS on the box is another issue I’m struggling about. I only need local network…

Where can I download old firmwar’s from WD site?

It’s unbelievable the lack of respect for WD to their customers!
I have sent several complaints directly to WD and they did not even deign to answer.
WD products, NEVER AGAIN!

Download firmware and follow the instructions on the page above.

It is quite shameful that we have to use an old and outdated firmware, just because WD can not, or do not know, how create an efficient firmware for the WD TV Live HD Media Player.
This is a proof of lack of professionalism of the WD.
WD equipment… NEVER AGAIN!!!

Too bad you can’t install different OS’s to the WD Hub.  Like Plex or Boxee.

Hi, i have exactly same problem (in Portugal) and i already got a replacement unit witch came with version 1.01.24.

After upgrading to 1.06.15_V happened exactly the same thing with preview (2 units same result). My workaround is to use List Preview instead of Preview Mode. I’ve exchanged several mails with Level II Tech support and they were supposed to call me to do some live testing. I don’t think they beleive what i say. You should all ask for a Replacement. maybe then WD will realise something’s wrong with their FW

I’ve contacted WD several times, and so far, they has not given me a satisfactory answer.

At the last message they sent me, they told me to install version 2.07.17. The problem is that, this version is for another device (WD Live Multimedia Hub Central) and not for the WD TV HD Media PlayerLive.
I think they do not know how to solve the problem they created with the version 1.06.15_V.

Interestingly, they told me they had no knowledge of this problem. Do they not read what is said in this community?
Never in my life, I’ll buy any other equipment from Western Digital.

You have to understand, that if there are issues with the firmware that may be causing problems, support won’t be able to help you.  That’s going to require the firmware being fixed.  That’s why they’re stuck with advising you to roll back to the previous firmware.

Moreover, support does not have enough time to read what’s going on in the community.  They are busy trying to help people on the phones, or through email.

Now, if you think that you’ve found a bug in the firmware, then it would definitely be helpful to notify support.  That way they can be apprised of the situation, as well as, notify engineering.  Keep in mind that this is a user to user community.  WD does not monitor the community, per se.  Nevertheless, we do our best to stay on top of reporting consistent issues found here.  And engineering does follow up on it, though you may not see it.

So why do they even have these forums if the only people who can deal with the problem (WD) choose not to read them?  It’s just a way for them to have us **bleep** with each other and not call them on the phone, instead wasting time here?

I don’t accept your premise.

…the vast majority of problems people post here are fixed by the other people who post here.
