Problem with HDD - transfer rate in bytes - HELP!

I have an elements 2 TB hard disk which isn’t really working anymore.

When I connect it with my laptop (or any other laptop) it shows all the files but when I start to copy a file in or out of hard disk the transfer rate gets down to few hundred bytes per second after starting at 30-40 MBPS. I am not even able to run a disc check on it because of this issue.

Any thoughts on how I can solve this without voiding my warranty?

PS: no physical damage has occurred to HDD.

Hi mayank6002 ,

What type of data are you transferring ?
Did you check this issue with any other computer ?

I was trying to transfer photographs from HDD to my laptop. When it didn’t work, I tried doing so on other machines but got exactly same issue. The transfer starts with standard 35-38 MBPS but quickly goes down to 100-200 KBPS and stays there.

I ran windows disk utility but it took 4 hours to complete 3% and hence I stopped it. Reconnecting the drive brings up the speed which quickly goes down in 5-7 seconds.

Raised a replacement request today as I couldn’t find any solution anywhere; this was going on from some time and I was researching but couldn’t find anything.

Hi mayank6002 ,

Ok. Once you get the drive, check with it and see if the problem still persists or not.

Thanks!
