Problem with Green 4Tb MediaType in server 2012

Hi There,

I’m really hoping that someone can help me out here. I have 4 x WD Green 4Tb SATA drives in a windows 2012 R2 server that I’m trying to use in Storage Spaces. 3 of the disks work fine as their media type is detected as HDD. 1 of them shows as unspecified though and can’t be used by Storage Spaces.

The 3 that work are all EZRX-19SPEB0, and the 1 that fails to recognise the media type is EZRX-22SPEB0.

Is there a way of flashing all of the drives up to a firmware level that is supported by Storage Spaces? Or can I downgrade the 22-SPEB0 to 19SPEB0?

Hello,

Not sure if that’s possible since WD does not have firmware versions available trough their support site for the WD green drives.

However, let’s see if any of the users can share some information about it.

In the mean time, make sure to test individually the drive that is showing as unspecified.
