Problem with Firmware Release 1.04.10_V

Hi,

I have a WD TV Live recently bought (1 .5 months ago) and 2 days ago my WD Live did an unpdate to firmware to 1.04.10_V.

Here are the results on this upgrade on my WD TV Live:

  • cannot play any of my movies…it saying to check the manual for files format support;

  • cannot play any of my mp3’s…with the same message as above;

  • on Video .VOB format playing, after 30 seconds the is no more sound and video is like is on slow motion state.

The unit worked well until this last release.

Does anyone has any ideea what to do next?

Thanks,

Oks

Have you tried pressing the side reset button with a paperclip for about 1 second with the unit on.

Thank you richUK for your answer.

I used the “Reset to factory default” feature from the unit software…and it didn’t help much.

Then I dig a bit on the forums and I found a lot of complains regarding 1.04.10_V new release and I followed instructions to downgrade my firmware to 1.03.49_V. After downgrading finished, the video stream problem on .VOB files was gone, but still cannot play mp3’s and any other .avi file format.

I wonder if my unit was damaged by 1.04.10_V update release.

Any help on this issue will be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Oks

Outside of being bricked, it’s not possible.

The unit cannot be “damaged” in the manner you describe by a firmware update / downgrade (i.e. some features stop working but otherwise unit is functional).

Can you provide more info about your network setup and how you stream your media?

Network shares or media server?

If media server, what media server do you use?

If network shares, what is the network share device (Win PC or NAS?)…?

Have you tried power cycling the unit?  In other words, pull out the power for a few minutes.  If you have played a badly encoded file, sometimes that can confuse the unit until it is fully powered off and then restarted.

Thank you TonyPh12345 for your answer…

…any other suggestions that might help fixing back my WD TV Live?

Many thanks,

Oks

Thank you for your comments PixelPower…at least now I know that the unit is physically OK.

The unit is used on wireless network with Win XP Pro network shares.

The unit has been hardbooted many times, without much success.

What I found weird is that the unit worked fine and played all my .avi’s and .mp3’s and other files until it update to 1.04.10_V. All my issues started with that update…

…right now I don’t know what can I do more from here.

thank you for any support

Can you try downgrading to firmware 1.02.21 and see if that corrects your issues?

After downgrading, reset to factory defaults.  Then paperclip the side button.  Then power cycle.

That’s the routine I have used for all my upgrades and I’ve never had any issues out of the ordinary.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on.  :)

Thank you Grant for your assistance.

I did every step you’ve suggested…but nothing has change

The unit behaves in the same way as per 1.03.49_V…More than that, on some .VOB the PCM audio is distorted…probably I didn’t previousely discover that.

Is my unit really doomed?

My since 1.02.21, still does not detect an HDD WD Caviar Green 1TB WD10EACS, other brands I have no problem, I have to change to the firmware 1.01.24 every time  I see something of that record and return to the last to hold the Internet Options.
WD lords, should I go on much longer?

How is it that an album of his own brand does not work, you do not understand and I am not alone, I read the odd comment about it but WD does nothing.

Anyone know anything that can help me?

I have had the same problem that has been resolved after overwriting any of my films in the hard disk.
