Problem with avi files?

it plays the first 20 seconds of the movie and kicks me back to the movie list… any ideas? is there a way we can update codecs? im not sure why its doing this… the audio and video are fine… while its playing opening credits

nevermind i think the issue might be my external hard drive… im finding a lot of bad sectors… and i think thats why its not playing…
