Power off necessary or not?

My drives are all connected to an electricity switchbox. If I do not use them, I eject them from the Mac-Desktop, and then I disconnect electricity on a Switchbox (not on the device itself).
The G-RAID with Thunderbolt 3 is not intended to do this.
Is it dangerous, to disconnect from electricity without pressing power off first ?

I don’t know what exactly is the purpose, but I always power off first.

The power-button is on the back of device, even the far most position for my arms  I put the device far away from my seat, because it is louder than expected. To switch it off I have to rise up and bend myself over the table.
This procedure is quite annoying.
I prefer devices, which powers down together with the mac. WD can do this, G-Tech cannot. Maybe the future brings new features from Sandisk…

If you use your computer multiple times per day, it’s best to leave it on.Every time a computer powers on, it has a small surge of power as everything spins up, and if you are turning it on multiple times a day, it can shorten the computer’s lifespan.
