I eventually spoke to a Western Digital representative.
At first, he told me to return the two drives. I let him know that I expected better support from a reputable company.
Asking the customer to contact the seller, wait for a reply from the seller, get an RMA from the seller, box up the two drives, address the box, go to a shipping service, pay for shipping, and cross fingers that the shipment does not get lost or stolen, is not what the customer wants to hear.
I further pointed out that Western Digital manufactures countess power bricks / adapters, and should offer to sell the correct one to the customer, or offer a part number and location where the customer can purchase the power bricks / adapters.
The representative either realized his “return the drives” answer was ridiculous, or his manager was listening in and told him so. Because he had me hold on for a minute, and said that he would ship me two power bricks at no charge.
But the shipment is going to take approximately 10 day. I could not get a straight answer as to what 10 days meant. Is it 10 days for them to make the shipment? Is it 10 days that I should expect it to show up? Which shipping service? Which level of service (overnight, 2-day, parcel post, etc)?
He took down my e-mail address. But I never got an acknowledgment of anything.
I will have to call, again, because I could be waiting on a shipment that will never happen.
Although I appreciate Western Digital agreeing (without too much trouble) to send me the power bricks that I need, this stuck-in-limbo state, of not knowing what the status is, is not good.
I had purchased four Seagate USB drives, and two of them would not register on any computer (I tried on 3, with different cables). Seagate shipped me two new drives that arrived in two days, and paid for the shipping label for me to return the two faulty drives. And, communications with Seagate was much better than Western Digital.
I hope I did not bore you with the details. But I felt like unloading on Western Digital for putting me through this. I need the drives, and have better things to do than wait on hold to speak to Western Digital, again, for an update.
Unless price is heavily weighted in Western Digital’s favor, I will never purchase one of their drives again. It is just not worth the trouble if you have a problem.
Cheers!
