I came across a external WD drive where the controller for the external drive was integrated into the drive, so when controller failed but drive had not it was impossible to swap into a pc or another external drive. I don’t want to get caught buying one with an integrated controller again.
How can I avoid them?
Is this still common practice with WD external drives?
