Port 80 closed

Hi,

Here is my problem. I have the mobile app on my iphone and the desktop app for my macbook. At home, I have complete access to my file, on my phone and computer. I also have complete access on my iphone with my 3G.

However, when I’m at work, I can’t access my files through my computer. My only option is to connect my 3G to my computer and open files that I need… Kind of frustrating…

I called like 4 times customers services. The best answer I had is to check if my port 80 is open on ‘‘yougetsignal.com’’. When I go on that website, it says that my port 80 is closed. The guy I talked to told me to call my Internet supplier and ask him to open my port… And they told be that everything is open… So now, I don’t know what to do to simply get access to my files outside home…

Anyone can help me?

Thanks a lot.

Please, somebody?

Have you got uPNP enabled on your router?

The comment about port 80 probably relates to Webdav, which is an extension to the HTTP protocol to allow collaboration and file sharing across web links (both protocols use port 80, amongst others).

Having uPNP enabled could allow the NAS or whatever that’s hosting your files at home to ask that traffic coming in from the internet on port 80 is send to it (port forwarding). If it’s not enabled or available (I’m not so well-up on Apple kit and don’t own any) then maybe try manually forwarding port 80 on your router to whatever local internal IP address your file source is on and see if that helps.

The other option is that your ISP is blocking access via that port (as I guess your other respondent was intimating) - if that is the case then you’d have to check and take it up with them to resolve it.
