Plug/unplug and do manual updates?

Due to the prevalence of malware nowadays, I want to leave my Metal Ultra unplugged until I’m ready to do manual file updates. Plug it in…do the update…and unplug until the next time. That way if my computer were to be infected with ransomware the Ultra would not, but it would have copies of my important files. Namely pics, music, video, and documents.

Two questions. First, are there any bad consequences of repeatedly(say, weekly) plugging/unplugging the drive via this method(I realize I would have to use eject drive)?

Second, from what I’ve read here, Smartware Pro is not going to do the manual updates the way I intend. What I want is to be able to have the software compare the source and target files and update the differences accordingly. Am I correct that Software Pro won’t do this?

If so, does anyone have any suggestions for software that would do this?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Community.

There are no consequences as long as it’s done properly via safe removal.

WD SmartWare will only add missing files and update old files. It will not delete files to match the source.
