If you serious to provide software backup with your product, please improve it or bundled some backup software or buy some company that have great software backup.
You don’t have to use it you can just uninstall it and use it as a plain drive.

Dude, is true WD needs to improve the software. However, if you don’t want to use it just don’t. Smartware is not necessary to operate the drive. There are a bunch of free backup software around.
