I have a my book essentail wd 2T external hard drive that was working good this morning, now it is not showing up on my laptop at home. 

fisrt it was coming up with the sound it does being plugged into the laptop but no pop up or registering in the computer. 
restarted the laptop a few times, first it was coming up with do you want to format it. 
no nothing is happening, doesnt sound like the disk is running. Only the light comes on

any help would be awesome as I have stored everything on there.

Hi, try connecting the my book directly to a wall socket and open the disk management window to see if it’s recognized there. If it is recognized, then you can use a data recovery program like recuva or testdisk to recover your data, if not, you need to contact a data recovery company to recover your files.
