PLEASE HELP ON my encryption question I’m such a ding dong

Ok, in short, I have been editing a project off this harddrive in premiere. I have a MacBook Pro. My Firevault is turned OFF.
I control+clicked on my hard drive icon on my desktop and pressed “encrypt” entered a password and basically it’s been encrypting for over 24 hours.

My question is: Is there any way to stop it? I can’t see the progress through disk utility since I didn’t use firevault so I have no idea what percentage it’s on. Is this normal that it’s taking so long? Any way to check progress?
I’m on such a tight schedule for this edit and I’m so screwed and feel like such an ding dong.
I contacted G-technology and Apple but they really weren’t able to provide any definitive answers.

There is no way to stop it, essentially you will have to wait till it finishes. It can take many hours and days to do.

Progress can sometimes be checked in the filevault preferences. Apple should be able to give you the info necessary since the encryption is their design.
