PlayOn no longer works with firmware 1.04.10

I know its been in other posts, but I wanted to make sure WD is aware that PlayOn is an important feature, one person mentioned making it part WDTV internet area. Thanks for a great product that so far has served our family well. To date we have purchased 1 generation 1 box, 4 live boxes and 1 live plus box. It would be nice to turn off firmware reminders when times like this occur, it’s a pain always having to back out of the firmware update to watch a movie.

is there a future solution ,or what

See the firmware update thread. For now rollback seems to be the ‘short term’ solution ( http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=5800)..) I spent a lot of time trying to get playon to work today and just figured out the new firmware was the issue. Ironic ain’t it?!?

Alhough there is a general firmware topic this issue is quite specific and profound. I have three WD TV Live throughout my house and extensively use playon.

I think one thread specifically should be maintained on this issue.

I have heard nothing back from WD. I cannot even get an answer to the key question of whether blocking it  was intentional or known, or whether it was unknown, and hence likely to be fixed. It is hard to believe after al the betas, none of which had any problem with playon that the final would kill it by accident.

WD has got to know that for a good segment o users this is a VERY BIG issue!

We should at least keep a thread specific to this issue and specifically for any respone from WD on it

WD DID respond in this forum.   It’s accidental, and they’re fixing it.

That is bad reading comprehension. Having worked in development for some time I can tell you nothing in those comments even hints “they are fixing it.”  Issues being “looked into” are more frequently never fixed than fixed. And the WD Team was “looking into” the dvd menu issue for 10 months.

Yeah, whatever… You obviously have the experience with your one post to counter… And you speak terribly of your OWN development style, don’t you?

Which we now have.

Well ! I don’t know what it means but. I did the trial period for Hulu  plus, I’m watchng a title with it and and one of the commericals shoud be for WDTV Live. Too weird. I know where my brain went rightly or wrongly. Yea ! I’d like to believe that Playon will be fixed so I can go back to regular Hulu. Hulu plus gae me nothing I really, really wanted. I’ve got netflix for that.

What WD is saying is that it is not on their priorities. That is what “looking into it” is a euphemism for.

Most of the bugs they have been looking into have taken almost a year to fix

And don’t worry, forums like this have their fanboys, who offer glib and meaningless “hope”, most of the rest of us understand your frustration

So you just popped on to a users forum and offered what? We try to offer possible work arounds and a bit more of a positive reply. You just sit back and offer nothing.

I can understand that some of you are frustrated, but you do need to be careful to keep things relevant and respectful, and not start on each other.  WD is going to fix PlayOn, so be patient.  Oh, and it’s not just a simple fix, and contrary to popular belief, we do test the firmware before releasing it.
