I’ve followed all the guides and waited over a week, hoping that maybe some indexing would take place. The images meet all the guidelines provided from the official Western Digital website:
Description:
Some images are not shown in the Photos tab of the Web and Mobile Apps for My Cloud OS 5 and My Cloud Home.
Unsupported Resolutions and File Types:
Images must have a resolution higher than 600x600 pixels.
The following file types will NOT appear in the Photos tab (source: Western Digital):
.BMP
.ICO
.GIF
The photos were transferred via SMB from my Windows machine but unfortunately are not showing up in the Photos tab. I also restarted the device to trigger indexing of these photos, but that didn’t work either.
Could it be related to the fact that there are around 700,000 photos?
There is nothing unusual about this from a cheap entry level personal cloud storage device. You see the same response from NAS costing 2 or 3 times the price. Some device will stop responding or become very slow if it runs into limitation in indexing, sometimes without any warning.
There is also a hard limit to how many folders indexing can support. That number is 100 for DSM 6.2 and 7.2 from another vendor. We don’t know what the limit is for OS4 that is running on the My Cloud Home, but you can find out for us.
A second backup probably doesn’t need all that media indexing and remote viewing with the webapp. If you just SMB copied to the Public space, the media will not be indexed. Use a Windows or Mac photo viewer to view the backup in the Public space if needed.
