Photos on Android being shared without permission

Hi! New to the board, just got a WD TV Live today (3rd gen), and liking it so far, but I’m rather concerned about something that just happened. I was messing around with it earlier today, and then left it alone for a few hours, switching the TV over to another source. I turned back to the Live, only to see a random photo from one of the phones in the house on screen.

I hadn’t touched this phone at all with regards to the Live. It doesn’t turn up under the Media Server or Network Storage lists, it never asked for permission on either end to use it, there doesn’t seem to be any DLNA sharing or anything set-up on the phone (it’s a relatives, but I’ve had a good look), and nothing was done deliberately on the phone to cause this. I suppose it’s also worth pointing out that the screensaver is still the default WD logo.

The closest thread I found to this is: http://community.wd.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-SMP-Discussions/quot-Pushing-quot-pictures-from-Android-phone-to-WD-Live/m-p/525951/highlight/true#M16184 - the OP had the same issue, but the discussion veers into how cool it is and how to do it deliberately, rather than addressing how it happened spontaneously in the first place.

Any ideas or answers would be greatly appreciated, and I’ll do my best to answer anything you’d need to know. Cheers!

you should really check into those phones

here’s the way DNLA works

DNLA renderer (WD in this case)

can be used by any DNLA server on the network

the WD do not do any requesting of data, or …

all it does is tell the master browser on the network that it exist and is available

Phones = DNLA server

this can be built into the rom

or individual apps installed can operate as a DNLA server

samsung phones have a particularly bad problem with this

DNLA and Share cast, etc … may be disabled in phone settings

then an app can activate it, with a simple wrong touch on screen

most of these phone DNLA servers are also set to automatically activate once a DNLA server is available

Oh brilliant, thank you! Hadn’t seen those. Not an ideal solution (what on earth were Samsung thinking…), but at least I know what it is now :slight_smile:
