Perpetual "The hard drive(s) in the My Cloud system is being reformatted. Please wait." message

I have a 6 TB My Cloud 2 gen (WDBCTL0060HWT-10). I was reformatting the drive (long/full not quick) as part of repurposing the drive. about 5 mins in we had a power failure for about 10 seconds that caused the drive to shut down. When I restarted the drive and tried to log in with the admin userid I get the message of “The hard drive(s) in the My Cloud system is being reformatted. Please wait.”. I let the drive continue to “reformat” but it’s been 3 weeks now and I still get the same “The hard drive(s) in the My Cloud system is being reformatted. Please wait.”. today, I tried both the 4 second and 40 second resets several time and there is no difference. It hasn’t even reset my admin password to blank. Thoughts?!

A power loss may have corrupted the firmware and or the hard drive contents. One may have to start from scratch and rebuild the hard drive partitions/format(s) then reinstall the firmware to the drive. Various methods of doing so. User Fox_Exe has one popular method of recovering a second gen single bay My Cloud.
