Permissions, ownership, etc

Hey all, so I’ve looked through (what I think are) threads relevant to my issue and am still facing problems… .So let’s begin:

I have a 250gb passport and I was (foolishly) messing with the permissions and accidentally denied everyone permission.

I was able to regain control and access over most of the folders, subfolders, and files by selecting myself as the owner and applying the changes, etc.

BUT!  there is one folder in particular (a 40gb music folder) that is being particularly stubborn.  No matter what I do it will only give me access to one thing at a  time:

I selected the folder and changed the permission, access granted.  then opened up the folder and none of the subfolders were available, so I selected the first subfolder and changed the permission, access granted… But the (sub)subfolders within that subfolder weren’t avalable… change, access granted, then the tracks within that next (sub)subfolder weren’t available… ARG!

so here’s the question: how can I apply the permission changed to every -EVERY- item within the initial music folder… Does this have something to do with ‘inherited’ permissions or something?  I’m trying not to mess with anything else until I get a better feel for what I did…

I don’t want to have to change the permission by hand, on every single item in a 40gb music folder >_<

help?

thanks

Permissions are assigned by the Operating System and changed by users if desired.

There are some articles on Windows support web that explain how to set and remove permissions.
