Periodic CPU Spikes with WD SmartWare 2.2.1?

I’m running WD SmartWare 2.2.1 with a My Book external drive, firmware version 2.018. Every 15 seconds or so I see a spike to 50-70% CPU usage from WDBackupEngine.exe. What might cause that and how can it be brought under control?

Hello,

  1. Make sure Microsoft .NET Framework 4 or higher is installed on your computer before attempting to install the newest version of SmartWare
  2. If that’s the case then uninstall Smartware, re-download the newest version on our website and reinstall it.
  3. Reboot once the install is complete.
