PC crashes after connecting WD external drive

After connecting and installing my newly bought WD external drive (My Passport Essential 320 GB USB 3.0/USB 2.0), my computer crashes after 20-30 minutes in operation. I have tried to update the driver and also run WD SmartWare Diagnostics, but unfortunately it did not help. My PC operates with Windows XP SP3.

I would appreciate very much if anyone could help me in this matter.

Try looking in the Event Log and see if there are any faults listed there in system.

you are probably dealing with the smartware resource hogging issue.  I’d disable the wfme service in your processes and see if that frees up your computer.  then I’d uninstall smartware until a better version comes out that doesn’t use up so much resource.
