I had these infuriating problems on my WD Passport drive (2TB) and could not resolve them. I realized that when I was trying to remove these elements from my drive, via the WD Security app, I was entering the password and then hitting the enter key. But I then discovered that after entering the password, I should instead press the rectangular button at the bottom left of the security app window, which is labeled as “Update Security Settings”. I don’t know if this will solve the problem for all who have reported this but it worked for me.
I am using OSX 10.10.5.
