Passport software

My passport stopped working so I downloaded WDback up software
when I install it and attept by first backup I get the response “invalid byte encoding”

Did you erase the drive? I switched from WD Smartware to WD Backup after erasing the drive. It works fine.

I erased my drive and started over but no luck still"invalid byte encoding"

OK, I searched the Knowledge Base" for “invalid byte encoding”. I didn’t find anything, but maybe you should try it.

I also checked Windows 10 online, but again nothing certain. It does seem that the problem may be in the data you are backing up.

Keep trying things.

I am giving up on Western Digital and will check out another company’s
external hard drive.
