My 500GB Passport has been bought and installed to my home PC. I bought it to be able to have multiple files portable for work and school as I use large files daily and a flash drive just won’t cut it. After setting it up on my PC running windows vista I am unable to run the harddrive on any other computer, PC or Mac. I can see the disk, and open it, but cannot add, remove, or delete data. The error message says that I am unable to change anything on the drive. What can I do to fix this problem?
Simple… Go to WD support site and download the latest firmware for your WD drive. Once firmware updated on your device, uninstall WD Smartware and reboot your home PC. Sometimes, your drive would disappear from explorer. (Smartware bug).
Smartware Uninstall Guide:
Now Partition & Format your Drive using NTFS. (Use New Simple Volume option)
If you ware prompt to install SES Driver on Windows PC, Download the SES driver from here.
Finally download and install NTFS-3G 2010.10.2 or newer (Google) on your MAC to be able access NTFS partitions.
Now you can use your drive as a simple 500GB shuttle
