Hi, I have a WD passport ultra, (purchased 2014) now WD tells me that they no longer support this model.
Question. Should I carry on using this as a backup? Do I run the risk of not being able to retrieve files etc? Thanks, G

So ? Just because any company no longer supports product does not mean you can’t use it.

Any hard drive (new or old) you buy could fail and lose you data… which is why you should always have a backup of your important data

Yes, but this is the backup drive.
You can make a double backup … just to be safe.
