Paramaters incorrect must format

When I plug my W.D. Elements Desktop. I get an error message stating the parameters are incorrect and the disc needs to be formatted. I obviously don’t want to format it since I have a bunch of files on it… It’s a 2TB Elements Desktop. Manufacturer date was 6-2010

Hello Blacky67,

You may run CHKDSK to check and repair file system corruption which may resolve the issue. This operation will run CHKDSK to check and repair file system corruption, errors, corruptions or bad sectors on the external hard drive or USB disk which might cause this issue. You can refer below steps to run CHKDSK in Command Prompt:

  1. Plug in your external hard drive, USB drive or memory card to PC.
  2. Open Command Prompt.
  • In Windows 7, Click Start , type in " cmd " in a search box, hit Enter and then click " cmd. exe " in the list of programs.
  • In Windows 10/8, press the Windows Key + X button and select the Command Prompt (Admin) option.
  1. In the new Command Prompt window, type chkdsk E: /f /r . Here you should replace E with the drive letter of your external hard drive or USB device.

I will give it a try when I get home.

I will post to let you know how I make out.

I appreciate the help.

Tim Black…

I ran the cmd that you’d sent me. Unfortunately it was not able to fix the disc. I pasted the results below.
If you have any other ideas, I’ll give them a try.
If not, thanks for your help.
